Docker: New Docker release

By | March 11, 2017

In an early March announcement Docker changed the way new versions are released and also branched it to Docker Community Edition (CE), Docker Enterprise Edition (EE) and Docker Cloud.

The new Docker EE has some additional features like Docker Datacenter providing integrated container management and security from development to production. That makes the Docker environment a competitor for VmWare and other data centre virtualization providers.

The Docker Cloud looks like a tentative to compete with big names like Amazon and Microsoft.

The new Docker CE is the free community edition that does not contain the DataCenter features but interestingly enough has free Docker Cloud access. You only have to activate your account with Docker, all accounts include one free private repository.

Docker Community Edition provides developer collaboration and dev pipeline automation capabilities as a service in Docker Cloud. Additional services available starting at no cost or for a monthly subscription depending on the needs of the user.

If you want to upgrade to the new Docker CE on Fedora you have to follow the following tutorial .
